Join Independent Educational Consultant Lauren Tropp and Dr. Rick Bolton, Ed.D. to learn more about how parents and students can best prepare for college when learning differences are a consideration.

Both Lauren and Rick have extensive experience working virtually with local students and those across the country.

Lauren Tropp, owner of Tropp Educational Consulting and professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) has been advising students on the college planning, search, and application processes for over a decade. In this presentation, she will provide an overview of special considerations for students with learning differences. To learn more about her practice, visit TroppConsulting.com.

Dr. Rick Bolton has been helping students prepare for the SAT and ACT for over 40 years, currently teaches at SCSU, and runs the LibraryLab. His doctoral dissertation explored the factors that determine success on standardized tests. He will address what both parents and students should do to prepare for these important tests. Visit LibraryLab.com for more information. There have been major changes in college entrance testing, both because of the COVID-19 virus, and in general. The latest information and research results will be presented.

Some issues we will address:

  • How do academic accommodations change from high school to college?
  • What questions should I be asking when seeking colleges with appropriate LD support for my child?
  • What types of support exist in college settings?
  •  How much do grades matter for admission and merit scholarships?
  • How might  test scores help students with academic performance that doesn't align with their ability?
  • Which extracurricular activities should students get involved in?
  • Since most colleges are now test optional, why should students take the SAT or ACT?
  •  How can working with a college advisor help ease the stress of the college admission process?
  •  How do college advisors know so much about the process?
  •  What should parents do to support their children for the college admission tests?
  • What should students reasonably do to prepare for the SAT and ACT?
